Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on the X platform that his country prevented the immediate risk of war and did not allow Europe to use Russian assets to declare war on Russia, Focus reports.

“This plan would have dragged Europe into war and imposed a financial burden of 1,000 billion forints on Hungary. We managed to protect Hungarian families from this“, Orban wrote. He added that although 24 EU member states have decided to provide a military loan to Ukraine for the next two years, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic - the Visegrad Three - have refused to participate, thus "sparing their children and grandchildren from the burden of the 90 billion loan".

Orbán noted that Brussels is preparing for war in an intensified manner and stressed that Hungary will not allow its citizens' funds to be used to finance Ukraine.

After negotiations lasting more than 15 hours, the EU reached an agreement to provide 90 billion euros in financial support to Ukraine for the period 2026-2027. As for Russian assets, the EU will not use them until Russia pays compensation to Kiev. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz specified that the frozen assets could cover the loan to Ukraine if Moscow does not repay it voluntarily after the end of the war.
