Three US police officers shot after family dispute

Three law enforcement officers in the US city of Rochester, New York, were hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a family dispute escalated into a shootout, local police reported, quoted by the Associated Press.

One police officer is in critical condition, a second is seriously injured, and a third is recovering from minor injuries after the incident that occurred yesterday evening.

Around 10:15 p.m. (5:15 a.m. Bulgarian time today) police received a report of an armed man trying to break into a home. The caller said he was also armed. According to police, a man and a woman were in the home, and the attempted break-in was carried out by the woman's ex-partner.

According to the information, the suspect opened fire on the arriving police team without warning, injuring two officers. A shootout ensued between him and the man who filed the report, who was also injured and hospitalized in serious condition.

The suspect fled the scene but was later found by another police officer. He shot the officer and was then killed in return fire, authorities said.

Police have not released the names of those involved in the shooting.
