Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Russia could launch heavy strikes against Ukraine during the Christmas holidays, DPA reported, BTA reports.

Zelensky told diplomats in Kiev that it is typical for Russia to carry out massive attacks on Christmas and noted that the situation is complicated by the shortage of air defense systems in the country.

Ukraine celebrates Christmas on December 25 according to the Western calendar, although many Ukrainians follow Orthodox traditions and celebrate on January 7, as in Russia.

In his evening address, the president added that he expected the Ukrainian delegation, which is holding peace talks with US special representative Steve Witkoff in Miami, to return to the country today. Zelensky stressed that he wanted to receive detailed information about the talks.

After separate meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian and Russian sides, Witkoff commented that the negotiations were constructive.
