Pope Leo XIV said today that he feels "enormous sadness" that Russia has not agreed to a Christmas ceasefire in Ukraine, SIR (Servizio Informazione Religiosa) reported.
"Among the things that cause me immense sadness is the fact that apparently Russia has refused the request for a ceasefire", the head of the Roman Catholic Church told journalists outside the papal residence in Castel Gandolfo.
"I will make another appeal to people of good will to respect at least Christmas Day as a day of peace", Leo, who is the first pope from the United States, also said.
"Maybe "They will listen to us and there will be at least 24 hours, one day of peace in the world," the Holy Father added.
