Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Rodion Miroshnik said that only fully democratic elections can legitimize Kiev as a party to the peace agreements, according to the Izvestia newspaper.
“Only voting in accordance with all democratic norms can legitimize Ukraine's position”, Miroshnik stressed.
According to him, the elections will be just a small step in the broader process of resolving the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which should include a whole series of steps.
On December 27, Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov wrote on his Telegram channel that US President Donald Trump will not allow the Ukrainian crisis to develop without his participation.
He added that for Trump “the stakes are also high“, as he has declared his leading role in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict and now must justify it. Especially in a year of congressional elections, Trump needs results, an interim assessment of his presidency.
