Summing up this year, we should note the awakening of Europe. "European powers were forced to rethink their role and responsibility for the security and prosperity of the continent," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga wrote on Facebook, quoted by Ukrinform, reported by BTA.
Sibiga noted that Ukraine has long been trying to convince its European partners that in view of the existential threat coming from Russia, a new level of mobilization is needed: diplomatic, political, economic and in the field of the defense industry.
"The awakening of European defense industries and military-political circles began in past years, but 2025 has become a truly turning and decisive year. This is due to a set of factors, including a change in US policy, a new level of provocations and hybrid threats from the Russian Federation, and systematic work with European governments," the Foreign Minister emphasized.
Ukraine welcomes the work to strengthen Europe's independence, its strategic autonomy and self-sufficiency, Szybiga also said. According to the Ukrainian minister, the key was the decision to increase defense spending to 5%, which was decided at the NATO summit in The Hague.
