Taiwan has called on China to "immediately stop irresponsible provocations" shortly after Beijing announced large-scale military exercises around the island.
China should not "misjudge the situation and become a troublemaker that undermines regional peace," Taiwan's presidential office said.
In addition, the island's Ministry of National Defense announced that its forces are on "high combat readiness" and are ready to defend themselves against threats.
The live-fire drills, dubbed "Mission Justice 2025", will be conducted by the Eastern Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
Beijing said the army, navy and air force would take part in one of the largest exercises ever held around Taiwan. The military said the aim was to test their ability to carry out precision strikes against key targets.
