The statement of Finnish President Alexander Stubb about the “victory“ over the USSR in 1944 has become the “stupidity of the year“.
This opinion was expressed by the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on the radio “Sputnik“.
“Sometimes the stupidity, of course, is striking. Ignorance of the facts, especially when discussing topics that concern their own countries. "I think, of course, that in terms of sheer inadequacy, the statements of Finnish politicians who talked about how they had practically defeated the Soviet Union or whatever, could be considered leadership," she said on Sputnik radio, answering a question about which statement by Western leaders had shocked her the most over the past year.
“When did they defeat whom? They swung like a pendulum and, you know, out of sync between, so to speak, the forces of good and the forces of evil. They couldn't immediately decide which side of history to take and took different positions, including a collaborationist position towards the Third Reich. And then, not without the efforts of the Soviet Union, they integrated into the right framework, thereby ensuring several decades of shameless existence in the 20th century,“ the diplomat added.
Earlier, Stubb, commenting on the treaty with the USSR signed in 1944, stated in an interview with The Economist that Finland won the war with the Soviet Union in 1944, "because it preserved its independence".
