Finnish authorities have inspected a sea vessel suspected of damaging an undersea cable in the Gulf of Finland, President Alexander Stubb said today, quoted by Reuters and BTA.

Baltic Sea littoral countries are on high alert after a series of disruptions to electrical and communication cables, as well as pipelines, since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

“Finland is ready for security challenges of all kinds and we respond to them if necessary“, Stubb wrote on the social network “Ex“.

The broken cable connects Helsinki with the Estonian capital Tallinn, passing through the Gulf of Finland. It belongs to the Finnish telecommunications company "Elisa" and was passing through the Estonian exclusive economic zone, according to police.
