Since the early hours of the day, farmers from France and other European countries have been gathering in front of the European Parliament building, some even with tractors, to protest against the trade agreement concluded on Saturday between the EU and the South American bloc Mercosur, BTA reports.
Hundreds of tractors are expected to arrive in Brussels, with the majority still traveling to the capital. The largest European agricultural organization “Copa-Cogeca“ (Copa-Cogeca) supports the demonstration, announced by the largest farmers' union in France - the National Federation of Agricultural Unions FNSEA. Bulgaria will also have its representatives at the protest, the National Association of Grain Producers (NAZ) reports.
The protesters will gather at the “Bordeaux” square after 10:00 local time (11:00 Bulgarian time). At 10:30 the march will head to the European Parliament building, where farmers will make speeches.
France is one of the countries that opposed the agreement with Mercosur, due to concerns that duty-free imports from South America would affect the local agricultural sector.
