The United States guarantees the security of Greenland and therefore should have rights to the island's natural resources, said US Vice President J. D. Vance.
“First, we want to share the wealth of this mineral-rich and resource-rich territory that we protect“, he said in an interview with Newsmax.
According to Vance, it is not Denmark, but “the power of the United States“ that guarantees the security of the island.
“The most important thing is that this is important from a national security perspective. Ask yourself what would happen if another country launched an intercontinental ballistic missile at the United States? Without control of the Arctic, our entire missile defense system would be destabilized,“ he said he.
Vance added that US President Donald Trump is “working out the details“ of the Greenland deal.
He said that there are significant US forces concentrated in the Middle East.
“The president has a lot of cards he can play. I won't say exactly what he's going to do, but we want to make sure that we have a lot of options. We have a lot of forces in the region“, he said, discussing US policy towards Iran.
According to the vice president, US President Donald Trump “just wants to make sure“ that the US has “the necessary resources to respond“ to Iran if it “does something really stupid“.
Previously, Trump said that the US is watching Iran and has sent significant forces, including ships, to the region. The President of the US, however, noted that “he would prefer nothing to happen“.
