US President Donald Trump's comments that NATO soldiers were standing far from the frontline in Afghanistan are "offensive and frankly appalling", British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.

"I find President Trump's remarks offensive and frankly appalling and I'm not surprised that they have caused such pain to the families of those killed and wounded," Starmer told reporters.

Starmer appointed his senior business adviser Varun Chandra as his new special envoy to the United States, focusing on trade and private investment.

The move came amid tensions between Britain and the United States in light of Donald Trump's ambitions regarding Greenland, his statements about the behavior of NATO soldiers in Afghanistan, and his Peace Council initiative.
