Canada opposes the construction of the “Golden Dome“ over Greenland, which would also protect it. This position threatens the country with negative consequences, US President Donald Trump said on the social platform TruthSocial.

“Instead, they voted to do business with China, which will “eat them“ in the first year!“, wrote the Republican.

This week, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the American leader ruled out a military takeover of the island and agreed on a deal for its fate with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

The framework agreement provides for the deployment of part of the future American missile defense system “Golden Dome“ in Greenland. The first test is planned for 2028.

"Golden Dome" is a US project to create a multi-layered missile defense system to protect the American continent. The program aims to protect the North American continent from ballistic, hypersonic and cruise missiles, including nuclear ones, as well as from drones. It will be based on space-based sensors and interceptors.

“We get everything we wanted: complete control, unlimited access to everything, as many bases as we need, all the equipment we want“, Trump said, although he did not rule out the possibility of acquiring the island in the future.

He believes that China and Russia threaten the security of Greenland, while Denmark itself is not able to defend the island.

It was previously reported that the Canadian Armed Forces have developed a model of a hypothetical US military invasion and possible retaliatory actions by the country. According to a hypothetical model, if Canada is attacked from the south, US forces could take control of key Canadian positions on land and sea within 2-7 days.

Military cooperation between Canada and the United States remains unchanged, including work on the continental missile defense system “Golden Dome“. The Canadian military is also modeling scenarios for possible missile strikes on the country by Russia and China.

Early last year, Trump urged Canada to consider becoming the "beloved" 51st state of the United States. He believed that the unification of the two countries would also benefit Canadians: "Much lower taxes and much better military protection for the people of Canada - and no tariffs."
