The head of the Iranian telecommunications company assured local media yesterday that internet access will be restored "today or tomorrow", the Iranian news agency Fars reported, quoted by BTA.

According to Fars, Iran's Supreme National Security Council approved the restoration of the connection on Friday evening and informed the Ministry of Communications about it.

"God willing, this problem will be resolved today or tomorrow", said the head Behzad Akbari.

However, officials from the Ministry of Communications told Fars that restoring access will take some time "due to technical difficulties".

On January 8, Iranian authorities suspended access to the internet amid the repression against the recent protests in Iran, which began in late December.
