Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said yesterday that his country's military readiness is a means of deterring possible US aggression, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.

"The best way to avoid aggression is for (US) imperialism to be forced to calculate what the price of aggression against our country will be," the Cuban president said at a military exercise with tanks of the armed forces.

"And this depends largely on our preparedness for this type of military action," Miguel Diaz-Canel also said, dressed in military uniform. His statement was broadcast on Cuban television.

The Cuban president was accompanied to the event by the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, General Alvaro López Miera, and other high-ranking Cuban officials.

US President Donald Trump has stepped up his threats against Cuba following the attack on Caracas and the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, who was Havana's main ally.
