Heavy rains caused serious problems today in Athens, local media reported. Fallen trees and branches blocked streets and damaged cars, and in some places the fire department had to pump water from the ground floors of houses, BTA reports.
According to the online edition of the newspaper “Kathimerini“, the southern districts of the capital were the most affected, including the Glyfada and Argyroupoli areas. There are also numerous reports of fallen branches and other objects in the central parts of the city caused by the strong winds.
The National Meteorological Service of Greece updated its emergency bulletin and declared an orange code for thunderstorms in the Attica region, including Athens, urging citizens to be cautious and avoid risky areas.
