Orban orders Hungarian foreign minister to summon Ukrainian ambassador over aggressive messages

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced last night in a video on the social network "Facebook" that he had ordered Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó to summon the Ukrainian ambassador to Hungary, the Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

Orban pointed out that Ukrainian political leaders, including President Volodymyr Zelensky, had sent extremely aggressive and threatening messages against Hungary and its government last week.

"Our national security services have assessed the latest Ukrainian attacks and concluded that they are part of a coordinated series of actions aimed at interfering in the elections in Hungary," the prime minister said. He stressed that Hungary would not allow anyone to threaten the sovereignty or integrity of the electoral process.

"For this reason, I have instructed Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó to summon the Ukrainian ambassador. Hungary's sovereignty and interests will be protected," Orbán noted.

On January 13, Hungarian President Tamás Szujók set April 12 as the date for parliamentary elections in the country.
