Democratic leaders in the US House of Representatives said yesterday that if Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem is not fired "immediately", they will begin formal proceedings to remove her from office, Reuters reported.
"The violence that the Department of Homeland Security has unleashed against the American people must stop immediately. "Christie Noem must be fired immediately or we will begin impeachment proceedings in the House of Representatives," said Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York in a joint statement with his closest aides.
Republican Senator Tom Tillis also said yesterday that Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem "must be fired" after two deadly incidents involving federal agents during U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in the state of Minnesota.
"What she did in Minnesota should disqualify her. She should be fired," Tillis told reporters, quoted by Reuters.
