Taiwan's armed forces on Monday simulated repelling a Chinese attack from the sea, integrating shore-launched missiles and drones with fast patrol boats to stop an invasion attempt, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

China, which considers the democratically-ruled island of Taiwan part of its territory, does not rule out the possibility of using force to establish control over the island. Taiwan's government insists that only the island's people can decide its future.

A possible invasion of Taiwan by China would be extremely difficult, as the People's Liberation Army would first have to cross the Taiwan Strait and then attack the island's limited number of beaches suitable for landing troops, Reuters reported.

As part of its defense modernization program, the administration of Taiwanese President Lai Chin-te has pushed for more realistic exercises that better simulate real combat operations, rather than relying on rehearsing pre-prepared situations.
