US President Donald Trump has asked his team to prepare options for quick and decisive attacks on Iran that would not lead to the risk of a prolonged war in the Middle East. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous Trump administration officials, Focus writes.

As the publication's sources note, the ideal option would be one that would deal a strong enough blow to the Iranian regime so that it would have no choice but to agree to US demands regarding its nuclear program.

According to officials, the possibility of conducting a punitive bombing campaign that could overthrow the Iranian government is being discussed.

Trump and his team are also considering the possibility of using the threat of military force to obtain diplomatic concessions from Iran.

A senior administration official said that although Trump has repeatedly stated that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons, he has deliberately not given more details about this idea in order to keep his strategic goals and military plans secret.

The American president was informed and of possible attack options being developed jointly by the White House and the Pentagon.

Among them is the so-called grand plan that would put the US regime and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in a massive bombing campaign, officials said.

More limited options include strikes on symbolic regime targets, leaving room for an escalation if Iran does not agree to a deal that suits Trump.

An operation targeting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, similar to the one Trump ordered this month to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro using special forces, would be much more difficult in Iran, where the protection of its leadership is particularly closely monitored and the capital is located far inland.

Even if Khamenei is removed, no one can say for sure whether the next government will be more friendly, officials said. persons.

According to some senior officials, control will likely pass to a senior member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which could maintain or even strengthen the regime's hardline policy.

We recall that on January 28, the US president announced the approach of a large US fleet to the coast of Iran and called on Tehran to immediately sit down at the negotiating table to conclude a nuclear deal, threatening a large-scale strike.

According to the NYT, Trump is considering options for an attack on Iran, including a special forces raid on the country's nuclear facilities to destroy them.

Earlier, the media reported that Trump had received multiple reports from US intelligence that the regime in Iran was in its weakest position since the 1979 revolution.
