Russia has announced that it will consider any deployment of foreign military forces or infrastructure in Ukraine as “foreign interference“ and will treat these forces as a legitimate target, Reuters reported, citing a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, quoted by BTA.
The statement specifies that the deployment of military units, facilities or warehouses of Western countries in Ukraine is unacceptable to Moscow and poses “an immediate threat to Russia's security“. Even German contingents, if deployed in Ukraine, would be treated as a legitimate target for the Russian armed forces.
At the same time, the Russian ministry praised US President Donald Trump's efforts to resolve the conflict, noting that he "understands the root causes of the crisis" and does not impose meaningless preconditions for dialogue with Moscow.
The statement stressed that Trump is one of the few Western leaders to publicly acknowledge the root causes of the tension and work towards a peaceful solution, trying to take into account Russia's long-standing concerns about NATO expansion and Ukraine's position.
