Negotiators from the United States and Ukraine have discussed the ambitious idea of concluding a peace agreement between Moscow and Kiev in March, informed sources cited by "Reuters" indicate.

According to them, any such deal would have to be submitted to a referendum by Ukrainians, who will also vote in elections in parallel.

The sources note that at the meetings in Miami and Abu Dhabi, the American team told their Ukrainian counterparts that it would be best if the vote were held soon.

The Americans have emphasized that President Donald Trump is likely to focus more on domestic policy issues as the midterm elections for Congress in November approach, so representatives Washington will be able to devote less time to a possible signing of a peace agreement.

The sources also note that the parties have discussed the possibility of holding the referendum in Ukraine in May, but Ukrainian authorities believe that organizing the vote under current conditions will take about 6 months.
