Israel will not compromise on the disarmament of the radical Hamas movement or the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar made the statement at a joint press conference with his Paraguayan counterpart Ruben Ramirez Lezcano.
„We support US President Donald Trump's plan for Gaza. Hamas must be disarmed and the Gaza Strip must be demilitarized. These provisions are the basis of Trump's plan and there can be no compromise here,“ Saar said. According to the Israeli Foreign Minister, the disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarization of the Palestinian enclave are “necessary for the security and stability of the region“ and are also important for “a better future for the people of Gaza themselves“.
The second phase of Trump's plan for Gaza envisages the disarmament of Palestinian radicals, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the enclave, the deployment of international stabilization forces, and the start of work by the structures governing the Strip, including the Peace Council created by Trump. US Special Presidential Envoy Stephen Witkoff announced the launch of the second phase of the plan on January 14.
