Iranian Nobel Peace Laureate Narges Mohammadi was sentenced to several more years in prison, her lawyer announced, quoted by the agencies.

Mohammadi, a prominent human rights activist, announced the news of her sentence from prison in the northeastern city of Mashhad, where she is being held, her lawyer Mostafa Nili wrote in Ex.

There has been no official announcement from Iranian authorities about the sentence yet.

Mohammadi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023, was sentenced to an additional six years in prison for conspiracy and another year and a half for propaganda activities, her legal defense attorney said.

She was also given an additional punishment of being banned from leaving Iran for two years and being deported from the small town of Khosf.

Mohammadi previously had a sentence of several years. Neely wrote that given her health condition, she expects Mohammadi to be released on bail.

Three days ago, she was taken to a clinic due to her deteriorating physical condition and then returned to prison.

The activist was arrested at a funeral in Mashhad in early December, about two weeks before the latest wave of protests erupted in Iran. She had previously been serving a suspended sentence of about a year.
