Moderate socialist Antonio Jose Seguro is on track to win a landslide victory in Portugal's presidential runoff, with two opinion polls predicting a victory with between 67% and 73%, ahead of his far-right rival Andre Ventura, Reuters reported.
Exit polls conducted for several television channels predict that Ventura won between 27% and 33% of voters - a result that is still better than the 22.8% his anti-immigrant Stiga party won in last year's parliamentary elections.
Despite his loss, the 43-year-old far-right leader - a charismatic former television commentator, can now boast a surge in support, reflecting the growing influence of the far right in Portugal and much of Europe.
