Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has indirectly accused the US of breaking its word regarding the war in Ukraine. He said this in an interview with “BRICS TV“, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
“Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump agreed on the principles for resolving the conflict at their meeting in Alaska in August“, Lavrov said. "The US has already given up on this," he believes.
In the interview, Lavrov said that Russia is ready for full cooperation with the US for mutual benefit.
"However, in practice, the opposite is happening: new sanctions are being imposed, attacks are being organized against tankers in "international waters" in violation of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and India and other partners are discouraged from buying cheap Russian energy," Lavrov said.
He noted that Europe has long banned purchases from Russia, "forcing them to buy American liquefied natural gas at significantly higher prices."
„TV BRICS“ was created in 2017 as an initiative of the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa to “establish cooperation in the media sector“, the Moscow-based outlet's website says.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that “the agreements reached in Anchorage were the only way for Russia to achieve a breakthrough in talks to end the war“.
“The negotiations will continue“, he added.
Russia has insisted that Ukraine withdraw all its forces from the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. There has been no movement on this issue in the current trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States.
