European leaders are gathering for an informal meeting at the Alden Biesen castle in Belgium, where they will exchange views on strengthening the single market, reducing economic dependencies and increasing the competitiveness of the EU in the new geo-economic context.

The meeting is not expected to produce written conclusions, as European leaders prepare at their meetings. According to a diplomatic source, the goal is to reach a common diagnosis of the single market and the economic situation and to discuss specific actions to simplify measures for business and people.

The meeting will be attended by former President of the European Central Bank and author of the competitiveness report Mario Draghi, as well as former Prime Minister of Italy Enrico Letta, who prepared the single market report. Among the topics they will debate with the leaders are how to strengthen the resilience of the European economy and strengthen financing for small and medium-sized enterprises. With Draghi, the leaders will discuss the impact of the changing geopolitical environment on the EU's competitiveness, and with Leta, the short-term measures to be taken in this direction. They will focus on areas in which the EU is dependent, such as critical raw materials and the digital field.

Bulgaria will be represented by the outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov.
