US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he plans to discuss the current turning point in the world and the new role of the United States and its allies during his visit to Europe.
„I think we are at a turning point. And I will even refer to my speech or statement that I made during my confirmation hearings as Secretary of State: the world is changing very rapidly, right before our eyes. The old world, the world I grew up in, is gone. "And we are living in a new era of geopolitics, and it will require all of us to rethink what that means and what our role is going to be," he told reporters before leaving for Europe to attend the Munich Security Conference.
“We have had many private conversations about this with many of our allies, and we need to continue those conversations. I believe we will make progress on this issue on Saturday and I look forward to the meetings that we will have there,“ Rubio added.
He noted that Europe is a key region for the United States and its history is closely intertwined with America's. “We are deeply connected to Europe, and our future has always been and always will be connected to it. So we just have to talk about what that future looks like,” the secretary of state said.
During his visit to Europe from February 13 to 16, Rubio plans to visit Germany, Slovakia and Hungary.
The Munich Security Conference will be held from February 13 to 15. It will be attended by heads of state and government from approximately 65 countries, as well as foreign and defense ministers from more than 90 countries. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will open the conference on Friday.
