Trump considers partial relief on steel and aluminum tariffs

White House reviews list of affected goods amid pressure from businesses and trade tensions

US President Donald Trump is considering reducing some of the tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, the Financial Times reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, News.bg reports.

Last year, the administration imposed tariffs of up to 50% on steel and aluminum imports, including by applying a national rate on products containing such components.

According to the publication, the White House is currently reviewing the list of affected goods and plans to exempt some of them from the scope of the tariffs. It is also planned to halt the expansion of the lists, instead undertaking more targeted national security investigations of specific products.

The potential easing of the regime comes amid ongoing trade tensions and the administration's efforts to find a balance between protecting American industry and growing pressure from businesses to contain supply chain costs.
