US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Budapest, where he was welcomed at the Liszt Ferenc International Airport by Deputy Foreign Minister Levente Magyar, the Hungarian news agency MTI reported.
Rubio will meet with Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó tomorrow to sign an agreement on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy and to discuss bilateral relations and prospects for peace in Ukraine.
Rubio will then hold talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orban, focusing on peace efforts and negotiations, as well as US-Hungarian relations.
The meeting will be followed by a joint press conference.
Rubio's visit is considered important as Hungary is expected to play a key role in Donald Trump's Peace Council. Orbán maintains a friendship with US President Donald Trump, who publicly supported the Hungarian prime minister's re-election bid in April and praised his efforts to curb illegal migration.
