At the Munich Security Conference, representatives of Germany and France once again failed to demonstrate European unity, Berliner Zeitung writes.
“The biggest problem the Germans have with France is that they no longer trust the French“, the newspaper quotes an unnamed diplomat.
According to the newspaper, the meeting between French President Macron and German Chancellor Merz, during which the French politician's greeting to his German counterpart was ignored, reflects the rift in relations between Paris and Berlin.
Germany, the newspaper notes, does not trust France's ability to guarantee Europe's strategic independence while at the same time seeking closer ties with the United States.
The 62nd Munich Security Conference was held from February 13 to 15.
