US police said that the two victims of the man who opened fire during a youth hockey game in the state of Rhode Island were his ex-wife and one of his sons, the Associated Press reported.

The parents of the shooter's ex-wife and a family friend were also injured in the shooting.

The tragedy unfolded on Monday at the "Dennis M. Lynch" hockey rink ("Dennis M. Lynch Arena") in Pawtucket - a city with a population of just under 80,000 people, which until recently was known as the headquarters of the toy company "Hasbro". Two months earlier, the state was rocked by a shooting at Brown University that killed two students and wounded nine others, including a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said Tuesday that the victims of the attack at the hockey rink were the shooter's ex-wife and their adult son. Investigators have identified the shooter as 56-year-old Robert Dorgan.

Goncalves said that after Dorgan opened fire, at least three people rushed him and were able to stop him for a moment. However, the man pulled out a second gun. He later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
