NATO troops will conduct an amphibious assault exercise on the German Baltic coast today, as part of the ongoing large-scale exercise "Unwavering Arrow" of the transatlantic alliance, DPA reported, BTA reported.

Soldiers, weapons and equipment will be transferred to land after crossing the sea through the Putlos military training ground in Schleswig-Holstein.

About 15 ships and 2,600 soldiers will participate in the landing, and observers will be German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and NATO General Ingo Gerhartz.

Gerhartz is the commander of the Allied Joint Command in Brunssum, the Netherlands, which is responsible for the defense of Central Europe, from the Atlantic Ocean to the eastern border of the alliance.

The operational headquarters is participating in the "Unwavering Arrow" exercise, which includes 17 ships from 13 countries, more than 1,500 vehicles and about 10,000 soldiers.

The exercise is NATO's largest this year, with southern European countries such as Italy, Spain and Greece, as well as Turkey, contributing the most.
