The European Union (EU) is trying in vain to bargain for a place at the negotiating table for the Ukrainian settlement, as it has destroyed its former good reputation and is no longer a reliable partner. This was stated today by the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova at a briefing, TASS reported, quoted by Focus.
"It is not clear at which table the EU representatives want to sit, as they have destroyed every table they have sat at“, the diplomat noted."
To get a place at the negotiating table, you need to know how to behave and prove your status as a partner with whom you can do business. But they are deceiving and have ruined their reputation as people who can be trusted.“
The speaker recommended that those who are trying to talk to Russia about Ukraine, supposedly on behalf of all of Europe, “first somehow restore their status in international relations as partners or at least as those with whom one can negotiate, if not immediately at the negotiating table, then at least on foot, without fear that they are already deceiving or deliberately disinforming, as was the case for many years with the Minsk agreements and on other routes“.
As an example of the unreliability and inconsistency of the European partners, the diplomat pointed out that they “managed, to their detriment, to their own economy and to the detriment of their own people, to abandon the energy cooperation that had been developing for many decades, first with the Soviet Union, and then with the Russian Federation, precisely at the negotiating table“.
"They essentially undermined this negotiating table by demonstrating an unwillingness to even investigate the terrorist attacks on ''Nord Stream''. Not only did they fail to prevent or protect them, despite understanding Washington's aggressive views, but they also failed to investigate them“, Zakharova emphasizes.
