Japan's aid to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion has reached $20 billion

The amount of financial assistance from Japan to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion of the neighboring country nearly four years ago - on February 24, 2022 - has reached about $20 billion, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi announced today, quoted by the Kyodo news agency, BTA reported.

"Japan has provided assistance worth a total of about $20 billion in the areas of humanitarian supplies, financing and reconstruction, and they have been delivered systematically," Motegi said at a press conference.

He remained in the post of foreign minister when Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi formed her second cabinet after the crushing victory of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in the snap elections. parliamentary elections on February 8.

Motegi said he viewed the Ukrainian issue with a sense of global crisis, saying that "what happens in Ukraine today could happen in East Asia tomorrow".

According to the Japanese government, the current security environment in East Asia is the most tense since World War II, amid the threat posed by countries such as China and North Korea, Kyodo reported.
