A gas explosion today in an apartment building in Pakistan's largest port city - Karachi, killed 13 people, including women and children, police and rescuers said, quoted by the Associated Press, BTA reported.
Several people were injured. The explosion occurred in a residential area of Karachi - the capital of Sindh province, local police chief Rizwan Patel said.
The building has partially collapsed. Rescuers are still clearing debris in search of survivors buried under the rubble, he added.
Patel did not give further details, but said the rescue and search operation was continuing. Most houses and apartment buildings in Karachi, as in other parts of Pakistan, are supplied with natural gas for domestic use, but many households also rely on LPG cylinders due to low pressure in the network.
In July, a gas explosion following a wedding celebration at a home in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, killed eight people, including the bride and groom, the AP recalls.
