US President Donald Trump said that the United States must make a meaningful deal with Iran, citing good talks with the Middle Eastern country, Reuters quoted him as saying.

"There are good talks. Over the years, it has proven that it is not easy to make a meaningful deal with Iran. "We have to make a meaningful deal, or bad things will happen," Trump said at the first meeting of his Peace Council in Washington.

The indirect talks in Geneva on Tuesday between US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, along with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, were aimed at averting a growing crisis between the two countries.

The United States wants Iran to give up its nuclear program. Tehran has steadfastly refused and denies it is trying to develop atomic weapons.

Iran is expected to submit a written proposal on how to address US concerns during the Geneva talks, a senior US official told Reuters on Wednesday.
