The United States has deployed more than 60 military aircraft to Muwafaq Salti air base in Jordan, The New York Times reported, based on satellite images and flight data.

That's about three times the number of aircraft normally stationed there. The planes may also be stored in hangars, the newspaper noted. According to the newspaper, at least 68 transport aircraft have landed at the base since Sunday. Among the equipment spotted at the base are fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets, drones and helicopters.

According to The New York Times, this buildup of military forces may indicate that the United States considers the Muwafaq Salti Air Base a “key center for planning potential strikes against Iran“.

Earlier, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi said that his country would not become a staging ground for military action against Iran.
