An earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale has struck off the coast of Malaysia, part of the Santa Cruz archipelago in the Solomon Islands.
The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported this on its website.
According to the service, the epicentre of the tremors was approximately 97 km north of Kota Kinabalu at a depth of 620 km.
There were no reports of casualties or damage, and no tsunami threat was issued.
