The world does not need another war, said the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas, quoted by "Politico", reports News.bg.

Her words came in response to questions about potential US military strikes against Iran.

"The situation around Iran is extremely tense," Kallas said on her way to the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. "We do not need another war in this region. There are already too many conflicts, so we have emphasized the importance of a diplomatic solution."

US President Donald Trump has said he is considering limited strikes to force Iran to abandon its nuclear program. He has also discussed the possibility of a broader campaign aimed at removing Tehran's leaders.

However, Washington has increased its military presence in the region as it continues to pursue a potential deal with Tehran. Trump's designated negotiator, Steve Witkoff, said on Saturday that the president was "curious" why Iran had not capitulated.

For its part, Tehran has warned that it would attack US bases if attacked.

With few forces deployed in the region, European contingents are mostly observing the situation. Kallas stressed that the EU shares US concerns about Iran's nuclear ambitions and ballistic missile programme, but called for avoiding direct conflict.

"It is true that Iran is at its weakest point," she said. "We need to use this time to find a diplomatic solution."
