Kazakhstan and Austria will return each other's illegal migrants

The main goal of the Agreement is to create a legal basis for cooperation between the two countries in the field of readmission

The Majilis ratified the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Federal Government of the Republic of Austria on the readmission and transit of persons with illegal residence, Kazinform reports. The document was signed on February 28, 2025 in Astana.

The main objective of the Agreement is to create a legal basis for cooperation between the two parties in the field of readmission and transit of persons residing on their territory in violation of national legislation.

The Agreement will establish clear rules on how and within what time limits the parties will return illegal migrants and persons who do not meet or no longer meet the conditions for stay or residence on the territory of one of the parties.

It also determines the procedure for joint actions in the procedures for admission, transfer and transit not only of citizens of both parties, but also third-country nationals and stateless persons.

When considering issues of readmission of third-country nationals, their return will be carried out in the country of their citizenship, and the readmission of stateless persons will be carried out in the country of their last permanent residence or in the country that issued their travel documents.

Previously, the Majilis ratified the Agreement between the Governments of Kazakhstan and France on the Readmission of Persons, concluded on November 5, 2024 in Paris.
