Donald Trump's vice president, J.D. Vance, said in an interview with the American newspaper "Washington Post" that "there is no chance" strike on Iran would drag the US into a long war in the region.

"As for the idea that we would be involved in a war in the Middle East for years, there is no way that is going to happen", Vance said.

"I think we all prefer the diplomatic option", the vice president added, noting that "it really depends on what the Iranians do and what they say".

Yesterday, the third round of talks between Tehran and Washington on Iran's nuclear program, brokered by Oman, took place in Geneva. Before these talks, J.D. Vance told Fox News that US President Donald Trump still favors reaching a diplomatic solution with Iran.

After the indirect talks in Switzerland, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that this was the "most intense" meeting with the Americans and "progress" was noted.

According to him, talks with the US will continue on Monday, and at this stage the prospects for an agreement are "more serious than before".
