A 17-year-old teenager has planned a terrorist attack on a NATO base in Norway, Norwegian public broadcaster NRK reported, citing an arrest warrant cited by DPA, BTA reports.

The teenager's lawyer confirmed to the NTV news agency that the boy was detained on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act. His client denies the charges.

The teenager planned an attack on the NATO base in Stavanger in southwestern Norway. He grew up in Norway and has ties to the region.

The television station further reported that the teenager had been radicalized and had expressed support for the “Islamic State“. According to the publication, he once brought an "Islamic State" flag to school.

The boy was arrested due to the risk of absconding or destroying evidence, a spokesman for the Norwegian Security and Intelligence Service told NTV.

The teenager's lawyer said his client had been granted a two-week pre-trial detention order.
