The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) played a significant role before the attack on Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, writes the "New York Times", quoted by BTA.

According to the publication, the CIA monitored Khamenei for months, receiving information about his whereabouts and habits. It is alleged that the CIA learned that a meeting of senior Iranian officials was to be held yesterday morning in a building complex in the heart of Tehran and that Khamenei would be present there.

As a result, the US and Israel adjusted the time of the attacks on Iran. The original plan was to attack at night, the New York Times also reported.

Iranian state media has now confirmed that Khamenei has been killed.
