Iran's Assembly of Experts, which elects the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, will soon announce the name of the new head of state, Fars news agency reported.

According to its sources, the assembly's meetings are proceeding “as usual and in a secure environment“ and are nearing their end. The agency predicted that the results of the vote could be announced “in the coming days or even hours“.

It is also reported that the late Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei did not name his potential successor during his lifetime and delegated the matter to the Assembly of Experts.

The Israeli Air Force struck the building of the Assembly of Experts, which elects Iran's Supreme Leader, located in the city of Qom. This was confirmed by the Israeli army spokesperson, Brigadier General Effie Defrin.

“This afternoon we struck a building where the Assembly of Experts meeting was to be held in Qom. It was planned to elect a successor to the Supreme Leader. One of the main responsibilities of the Supreme Leader is to manage the security systems, and we will not allow this regime to restore its military power. "We are still studying the results of this strike and will report them when we know," he said at a briefing.
