The Israeli Armed Forces announced that their F-35I fighter jet shot down an Iranian "Yak-130" plane in an air combat - the first such incident between combat aircraft since the beginning of the war, writes the Jerusalem Post.

The statement from the Israeli army (IDF) was published at around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. According to the information, the Israeli F-35I destroyed the Iranian plane in the course of a dogfight.

The Russian-made "Yak-130" plane is a model from the 1990s. It is mainly used as a new-generation training aircraft, designed to train pilots for more modern combat aircraft, including fighters such as the Su-57.

In addition to being a training platform, the "Yak-130" can also be used as a light attack aircraft to perform combat missions.

At the moment, no details have been reported about the location of the air battle, as well as the fate of the pilot of the downed aircraft, but it probably happened in the skies over Tehran. Iranian authorities have not yet commented on the information.
