Over 70% of Kazakhstanis will participate in the vote on the country's new constitution

Young people demonstrated the highest readiness to participate

Nearly 82% of the surveyed Kazakhs are aware that a referendum on the draft of a new Constitution is planned in the country. This is stated in a study conducted by the Kazakhstan Institute for Social Development. Of these, 33.7% are well informed about the referendum, and 48.1% have heard something about it, but do not know the details. The share of those who have not heard anything about the referendum on the draft of a new Constitution is 17.1%.

According to the results of the telephone survey, young people are well informed about the planned referendum (44.8%). At the same time, older people also demonstrate relatively high general awareness, although without details (51.7%).

Awareness about the referendum on the draft new Constitution also depends on the level of education of the respondents. The higher the level of education, the higher the general awareness. Thus, 86.7% of respondents with higher education have heard about the referendum to some extent, while 74.3% of respondents with secondary specialized or vocational education are also informed about the referendum.

The majority of respondents (76.9%) receive information about the constitutional reform and political events in the country from social media (TikTok, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, VKontakte, etc.). One third of respondents (33.3%) stated that they learn about political events in the country from online news sites. Television is cited as a source of information by 20.5%.

The survey reports high levels of voter turnout.

To the question “Do you plan to participate in the referendum on the draft new Constitution?”, the majority of the surveyed Kazakhs, namely 72.8%, answered positively, stating that this is their civic duty. Another 17.9% of the respondents indicated that they have not yet made a final decision on whether to participate in the referendum. According to the telephone survey, 9.3% of respondents do not plan to participate in the referendum.

The highest willingness to participate in the referendum was demonstrated by young people (82.2%) and respondents aged 29 to 45 (76.3%), as well as respondents with higher education (74.4%) and those with general secondary education (75.0%).

According to the data obtained, the majority of Kazakhstanis support the draft for a new Constitution - 89.2%.

Among them, 52.8% of the survey participants fully support, and 36.4% somewhat support, the draft for a new Basic Law. The share of those who, for various reasons, do not support the draft for a new Constitution or have not yet decided is only 10.8%.
