Turkey summoned Iran's ambassador and demanded explanations for the intercepted missile

A ballistic missile launched from Iran and entering Turkish airspace was shot down by NATO air and missile defense systems

Turkey summoned Iran's ambassador to Ankara today and demanded explanations in connection with the second case of a ballistic missile launched from Iranian territory into Turkish airspace within five days, the publication "Türkiye Today" reported, BTA reported.

NATO air defense intercepted the missile over the southern city of Gaziantep today, and debris fell in a field outside the populated area.

The Foreign Ministry summoned Ambassador Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh and conveyed Ankara's strong reaction and concerns regarding the incident, ministry sources said.

Ballistic missile, launched from Iran and entering Turkish airspace was shot down by NATO air and missile defense systems in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced earlier today.

This is the second such incident in recent days, after the ministry also announced on March 4 the interception of an Iranian ballistic missile that had headed for Turkish airspace after flying over the airspace of Iraq and Syria.

The Defense Ministry specified that some of the missile's fragments fell near Gaziantep, southern Turkey. There were no casualties or injuries.
