Germany has temporarily withdrawn staff from its embassy in Baghdad from Iraq due to increased security risks in the context of the conflict in the Middle East, a foreign ministry spokesman said late yesterday, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

"The staff of the German embassy in Baghdad has been temporarily relocated from Iraq due to the threat", the spokesman said, adding that the safety of the staff is being continuously assessed.

The embassy remains accessible, although legal and consular services have already been severely restricted for some time due to the security situation, the spokesman said.

Foreign Minister Johan Vaddefull, speaking in Nicosia, Cyprus, late yesterday, said he had discussed the regional situation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Both condemned what Vadefoul called Iran's "indiscriminate attacks" on countries in the region and called on Tehran to end them.
