The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Kaine said today that the United States is striking Iranian destroyers, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

The war in the Middle East has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, which is key to the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.

"(US Central Command) continues to pursue and hit destroyers and minefields", Kaine told reporters.

Kane also said that in the first 10 days of the campaign against Iran, the United States has sunk or destroyed more than 50 Iranian naval vessels.

US President Donald Trump threatened yesterday to escalate war with Iran if the Islamic Republic blocks oil supplies from the Middle East.

Kane also said that Iranian forces are fighting, but not more impressively than expected.
